A budgeted time standard is typically utilized in statistical and/or non-revenue driven cost center.  Nursing units are typically driven by statistics (patient days).  They use a budgeted time standard to measure staffing requirements, budgeted hours per KVI.

    Examples:

A telemetry unit is budgeted 8 hours per patient day as a budgeted standard.  If the unit has 10 patients at midnight, the staff required for the day is 8 hours per patient day X 10 patients =80 hours.

A dietary cost center has a budgeted standard of .0881. If they perform 6000 KVI for the day, the staff required is .0881 X 6000 = 528 hours.
