Cost centers that have expenses over more that $2000 or $2000 and 5% of budget are tallied at month end.  This “Expense overage and reason report” is vital to an effective executive.  In one report the executive can view all abnormal expense variances and the manager’s reasons.  Executive management’s goal is to keep focus on meeting the budget.
