Hours are collected and categorized in IMS. Hours are loaded daily, by pay period, and monthly. Hour reports have actual, budget and variance columns for current and year to date time periods. The system has every conventional hour category tallied. In addition, "indirect" and "direct" hour’s are subtotaled. These are key in developing precise productivity metrics.
Salary expense is the largest single hospital operating expense. Managers must carefully review and control their hours to stay on budget.
